Stop Motion Animation

We’re constantly impressed by the levels of creativity of our children and teenagers at Submarine, here in Stockbridge. Children and teenagers can start from any level, and can join our classes from ages 7+ to develop their creative skills. We introduce our classes to a variety of Stop Motion projects, including hand drawn frame animation, Lego stop motion, and claymation. This includes an introduction to the Stop Motion Studio app for iPad, where students can learn to direct their own animations, add voice overs and sound effect, and more.

We’ve especially enjoyed making our Aardman-style Stop Motion characters from our Art Clubs - featuring some recognisable characters and new creations! Check out our paper cut-out Stop Motion too from our Stop Motion Club, where the group used paper shapes to animate simple but fantastic animations. Everyone’s been busy with their own freestyle projects - using everything from posable figures, to plasticine, to Lego - to create their own films, often featuring music, sound effects and voice overs in the finished cut.

Arthur made a great Lightning McQueen entirely out of plasticine - and Alice added tiny gems to her classic Feathers McGraw penguin. Check out Kaz’s fantastic retro paper cut-out animation - made entirely by hand - it impressed us all!
