Picture book illustration course with Madeline Pinkerton, plus introduction to typography and composition.
They say everyone has a book in them and picture book illustration is a wonderful skill to have to bring your ideas to life.
Submarine have teamed up with the brilliant illustrator Madeline Pinkerton to create an introduction course that will provide you with the tools and inspiration to get you started as an illustrator.
Projects will include hand drawn and painted illustration work, character design and development of storytelling skills. The course will also include an introduction to typography and graphic composition, where we will be placing your visuals and text into page layouts, with Submarine Graphics lead tutor Tom Ellis.
Join us for this creative and relaxed 8 week course which starts on Thursday 24th April 2025.
Please note this course will have a new theme from the previous one and is suitable for newcomers or progressing students. We welcome people of all abilities and experience levels.
Each group will have its own online gallery page where they can download and share all the digital work they create.
All equipment and materials included.
Students will also receive digital prints of their best work.

Madeline Pinkerton

Madeline is an Illustrator based in Scotland. Her art inspiration comes from observing the natural world and the little creatures and stories it contains.
Madeline’s first picture book ‘A Dragon Story’ was published by Little Door Books and she has run various events and workshops with festivals, local libraries and schools.
