An introduction to drawing and painting
During this course we'll learn some techniques to approach drawing and painting, with beginner-friendly exercises. The second half of the course will be used to turn your drawings into more developed paintings.
We'll have sessions focused on drawing approaches, image-making, texture, underpainting and more.
Our tutor, Sorin, will work with you to create a series of paintings and drawings, whether you're a complete beginner or already enjoying drawing.

A variety of activities to create sketches and images that can then be turned into drawings or paintings. We'll use several 'idea-making' techniques including collage and imaginative drawing.

Painting without brushes? Let's explore fun and experimental ways to create textures in painting - we'll then use these textures to make collaged artworks.
From Sketch to Painting

Learn how to turn drawings, collages and photos into paintings. We'll focus on several ways to 'scale up' into paintings - bring some drawings or photos along, or work from one of our examples.
Underpainting and Glazing
March 26, 2025
Learn how to start and complete a painting using age-old techniques. This will be a beginner-friendly approach to painting techniques suitable for all abilities.
Open Painting Space
April 2, 2025
A free space to join in painting. Tutored guidance will be available, with some activities covered in the previous week's available to try.
If you've been along to our Friday Give-It-A-Go classes, this is a great way to develop those skills even further!
This will be a new six week course, which we're keen to continue in the future - so if you'd like more information, or a trial session, please get in touch!

Sorin Bath
I am a multimedia artist, specialising in motorised electronic art. I've studied drawing, painting and sculpture, and am a graduate from Edinburgh College of Art - I'm looking forward to introducing more people to electronic and multimedia art.
